What the month does to the Day Master
Born in 申, the first month of autumn, with a wood Day Master. This is 死 by the seasonal table — the season controls the Self — and it is the hardest structural position of the twelve.
申 holds 庚 metal, 壬 water and 戊 earth. The metal is what cuts wood; in autumn it is at full strength and the tradition names it without softening. But the branch also carries 壬, and that is the detail worth knowing: 壬 is where metal turns into water, and water produces wood. Inside the month that is hardest on you there is a route back.
《窮通寶鑑》 reads early autumn as the turn from heat to cold, and for a wood Self the instruction follows the same logic — the metal must be handled, and the way the classics handle metal is with fire, or by letting the metal run into water and the water into you.
