The month pillar is the strongest single influence on whether a Day Master is supported. 午 is the second month of summer; it opens at 芒種 Grain in Ear, around 5 June, and runs to about 7 July.

What the month does to the Day Master

《窮通寶鑑》

Born in 午, the second month of summer, with a wood Day Master. 休 — resting, and at its deepest. 午 is midsummer, one of the four pure branches, and the whole month runs against you.

午 holds 丁 fire and 己 earth. Fire is what wood is being converted into here, and earth is where the residue goes; nothing in the branch returns anything. A wood Self born at the peak of summer is a tree in a drought — still standing, still growing, and losing water faster than it takes it in.

《窮通寶鑑》 gives the second summer month the most explicit climate instruction of any month in the year, and it is the same in every version: water first, and enough of it. Not fire, which is already excessive. Not earth, which is already dry. Water, and then wood to hold it.

What follows practically is that this chart is read through what cools it. A supporting element that would be redundant elsewhere is load-bearing here, and an output element that would be welcome elsewhere is expensive.

The month is lost. That is a statement about structure and about which levers work, and the classics attach no verdict to it.
