What the month does to the Day Master
Born in 午, the second month of summer, with a metal Day Master. 死 — the season controls the Self, and 午 does it at full strength with nothing to offset it.
午 is a cardinal branch holding 丁 fire and 己 earth. The fire is what controls metal and it is undiluted here. The 己 earth would produce you, except that midsummer earth is fired dry, and 「土乾則脆」 — dry earth makes metal brittle rather than making it at all. So even the supportive stem in the branch is working at the wrong temperature.
《窮通寶鑑》 is at its most insistent on the fifth month and its answer is the same for every Day Master: water. For metal that answer is also your own output, which makes this one of the few positions where spending yourself and saving yourself are the same action.
The practical reading: water is load-bearing, moist earth helps and dry earth does not, and additional fire is the one thing the chart cannot take.
The mandate is lost as fully as the table allows. It fixes which levers move the chart. It forecasts nothing, and the literature is full of strong charts born in exactly this month.
