What the month does to the Day Master
Born in 辰, the last month of spring, with a fire Day Master. 休 — resting. Fire produces earth, and in an earth month the Self is spending itself into the season continuously.
辰 holds 戊 earth, 乙 wood and 癸 water. There is residual spring wood in it, which helps, and there is 癸 — 辰 is the 水庫, the vault of water — which does not. Damp ground and stored water under a fire Self is the specific arrangement the classics call 晦火, fire gone dim: not extinguished, obscured.
《窮通寶鑑》 reads the third month as the hinge into summer, and for a fire Day Master the instruction is to keep the wood working and to watch the wet earth. What such a chart wants is wood to sustain it and fire to stand with it, not more earth and not more water.
The counter-intuitive part is worth stating. Earth is your output in this system, and in this month output is what is dimming you. Productivity and depletion are the same movement here, which is why 失令 changes how the later sections should be read rather than merely lowering a score.
