A 木 Wood Day Master and a 土 Earth Day Master

The two Day Masters

Name the mechanism first. This is 我剋 wǒ kè — you control them. Your Day Master is Wood; the other chart's is 土 tǔ, Earth, and Wood is the phase that breaks ground. In the ten-god vocabulary, whatever you control occupies the 財 cái position, the wealth seat, and that word is plainer than it sounds. It means: this is what is available to you to work with.

《三命通會》 fixes both halves of the transaction at once: 木能剋土，土重木折 — "Wood is able to control Earth; where the Earth is heavy, it is the Wood that snaps." Read only the first clause and you have a fantasy of mastery. Read both and you have the actual arrangement. The tradition's position on 剋 is that control is not damage, it is use — 剋中有用, there is use inside control. Ground nobody breaks grows nothing; a root that meets no resistance anchors nothing. Earth gives Wood somewhere to stand, and Wood gives Earth a reason to open. That reciprocity, not dominance, is the content of the relation. But it is asymmetrical in tempo, and the tempo is where couples in this configuration come unstuck.

What they pay is being the one who is worked. Earth's virtue is that it holds — arrangements, houses, obligations, the standing order of a shared life — and it holds by not moving quickly. Wood's characteristic move is to go through, generally in advance of consultation. Lived out over years, that becomes a person whose steadiness is treated as raw material and whose consent is inferred rather than requested.

What you pay is written into the second clause. Their weight is not passivity. Earth that has decided against a thing does not argue with you; it simply stays where it is, and Wood exhausts itself against that with nothing to show. Being unopposed is not the same as being agreed with, and this pairing will teach you the difference slowly and at your own expense. Both costs are real and neither cancels the other; the classics rank no pairing above another, they only describe what each side is spending.

Something you can check this week. Think of the last practical decision the two of you made together — a move, a sum of money, a change to the week's shape. Then work out whether their agreement was given to you, or assumed by you.
