What the month does to the Day Master
Born in 卯, the second month of spring, with an earth Day Master. 死 — the season controls the Self, and 卯 does it without any of the compensations 寅 offered.
卯 is a cardinal branch containing only 乙 wood. Where 寅 carried fire and earth inside it, 卯 carries nothing but the thing that opens ground. Mid-spring is wood at full strength, undiluted, and an earth Self born here starts from the least supported position in its year.
《窮通寶鑑》 reads the second month as damp and rising, and for earth the concern is specific: ground that is being worked continuously and never allowed to consolidate. The classical answer is fire, which both warms the ground and turns the wood's pressure into something the earth receives rather than resists.
Two consequences for how the later sections read. Support is structural here rather than optional — fire and earth carry weight that they would not carry in an earth month. And the usual sense of pressure as opportunity does not apply, because pressure is already the entire month.
The mandate is lost as fully as the table allows. The classics attach no verdict to that, and the literature contains a great many capable charts in this exact position.
