A 水 Water Day Master and a 金 Metal Day Master
The first thing the tradition settles about two charts is not sentiment but direction: which way the traffic runs between the two Day Masters. Here it is 生我 — they generate you.

The two Day Masters
The direction runs towards you. This is 生我 shēng wǒ — they generate you. The other chart's Day Master is 金 jīn, Metal; yours is Water, and in the productive cycle Metal is what yields Water. An element producing the Day Master occupies the 印 yìn seat, the seal: backing, standing, the source that is behind you and is not you. 《三命通會》 records what the giving side spends: 強金得水，方挫其鋒 — "Metal that is strong, obtaining Water, only then has its point blunted." That is the transaction. Their hardness is what your movement is made of, and supplying it takes their edge off. Most of the time they will describe the loss as a relief, and it is one. It is still a loss.
The image the old texts use is the spring in the rock, and it repays attention. Water does not carry only itself. It carries whatever it has passed over, dissolved and no longer visible — which is why a spring tastes of the ground it came through. Your fluency in this pairing works the same way. The standards you apply so easily, the lines you will not cross, the instinct for what is shoddy: these are in solution. They came out of the rock, and by the time you are using them they feel entirely like your own judgement, because dissolved material always does.
Your cost is that a source which never fails is a source you stop being able to locate. Water supplied continuously never has to find its own head, and the particular exposure of this configuration is not weakness but unearned confidence — positions held firmly, held on borrowed hardness, and impossible to defend if anyone asks how you arrived at them.
Their cost is 挫其鋒. Every time they resolve something for you, they resolve it slightly less sharply the next time. The blunting is real and cumulative, and it is generally invisible to both parties because it looks, from outside, like a person becoming easier to live with.
Something to check against your own record. Take the standard you hold most firmly — the thing you would not compromise on. Then trace it backwards and see whose it was first.
