A 金 Metal Day Master and a 火 Fire Day Master

The two Day Masters

This runs 剋我 kè wǒ — they control you. Your Day Master is Metal; the other chart's is 火 huǒ, Fire, and Fire is the only phase that acts on Metal directly. An element controlling the Day Master takes the 官殺 guānshā seat, the officer, which in this tradition denotes constraint holding a warrant rather than harm.

《三命通會》 does not hedge the exposure: 金衰遇火，必見銷鎔 — "Metal that is thin, meeting Fire, will certainly be melted down." 銷鎔 is worth pausing over. It is not a word for being dented or broken. It is the word for losing form altogether and going back to liquid, which is a specific fear for a phase whose entire identity is its finish. That fear is not irrational, and it is also not the whole account. Ore is not an implement. Between the two states there is a furnace and nothing else, and every edge that has ever been carried into a room passed through a period of having no shape at all. Precision that has never been heated stays theoretical — correct, unrepaired, and untested against anything that would not simply agree with it. In this pairing, you are heated regularly.

Your cost is the interval. You value being finished, and being worked means having relinquished the old form before the new one exists, in front of somebody who is watching. A person of your phase will often prefer to hold a position they have privately abandoned rather than be observed mid-melt, and this pairing makes that preference expensive.

Their cost is that heat has to be generated, continuously, out of themselves. Nobody else in the room is doing that. Fire in this seat spends its own substance to work yours and is then read as intemperate, demanding, hard to be around — the discomfort is attributed to their character rather than to the process both of you are inside. They rarely get told that the forge was necessary.

Something you can check rather than accept. Find an occasion in the past year when they changed your mind. Then work out whether you said so at the time, or waited three weeks and presented the new position as your own.
